MWAE and SACC invite you to a public meeting following on from the successful launch of IHRC Counter Islamophobia Toolkit in Glasgow.
Doors open 6pm for a prompt start at 7pm.
With Islamophobia prevalent throughout British media and toxic policies like Prevent silencing dissent among Muslims we hope that the Counter-Islamophobia Toolkit will present useful working methods for Muslims and anyone in the public sector, politics and education to work against hatred towards Muslims and disinformation of Islamic practices.
Speakers will be: Arzu Merali (Head of research at the Islamic Human Rights Commission and author of the UK section of the Counter Islamophobia Kit), Samena Dean (Edinburgh Coalition to Countering Islamophobia), Zareen Taj (Muslim Women's Association of Edinburgh), Omar Afzal (Muslim Council of Scotland), Anas Sarwar MSP (Chair of the Cross Party Group on Tackling Islamophobia). Chaired by Richard Haley (Chair of SACC).
CIK is a ground-breaking project that contains key actionable messages for policy makers, national governments, professionals, civil society, the media and practitioners across the EU. It was launched at the European Parliament in Brussels on 26 September 2018, and in Scotland at a meeting in Glasgow on 28 March 2019.
Tea and snacks will be available from 6-7pm. Peace tapestries created by MWAE and the community of St John's Church will be on display.
The meeting is co-organised by SACC and MWAE
