A CIA whistleblower’s story
with Ray McGovern ex-CIA analyst and US Presidential briefer
2.30pm for 3pm start (doors close when full).
Ray McGovern is a retired CIA officer. He was a CIA analyst from 1963 to 1990, and in the 1980s chaired the authoritative National Intelligence Estimates and prepared the President's Daily Brief, a top secret document delivered each morning to the US President. In 2006, he returned the Intelligence Commendation Medal he had received on his retirement in protest at the CIA's involvement in torture. He comments widely in the US media on intelligence issues and in 2003 co-founded Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS).
Speaking on NBC News on why the US invaded, occupied and devastated Iraq, he said, “I’ve been using the acronym O.I.L...: O for oil; I for Israel; and L for logistics, logistics being the permanent military bases that the US wants to keep in Iraq”.
