Stand Up to Racism Conference
Stand up to Racism Scotland is organising a national conference to bring together speakers, organisations and other activists to discuss how we can tackle the rise of Islamophobia, racism, anti-semitism and how we defend civil liberties and the fight against racism internationally. We will discuss how activists and organisations can campaign for more to be done for refugees.
Registration from 12 noon.
1-2pm Opening Plenary. Speakers: Sandra White (MSP), Amal Azzudin ("Glasgow Girls" campaigner and community worker), Jock Morris (Glasgow Campaign to Welcome Refugees)
2pm - 3.30pm Workshops:
- Prevent, the Extremism Bill and the Defence of Civil Liberties with Richard Haley (SACC), Penny Gower (Edinburgh College EIS)
- Brexit - defend Migrant Rights and Freedom of Movement with Helen Martin (STUC), Ade Johnson (Sheku Bayoh Campaign), Kimon Bukas (Real Democracy Now)
- Refugees Welcome Here. With Tom Adamson (Students/Trade Unionists for Calais Convoy), Mohammed N Asif (Afghan Human Rights Foundation)
3.30pm - 5pm Closing Plenary. Speakers: Aamer Anwar (lawyer), Nicola Fisher (EIS Vice President), Charlotte Ahmad (UAF)
