About the "Reject the Terrorism Bill" Petition

  • The petition was launched by Scotland Against Criminalising Communities on 15 October 2005. It is based on a longer statement ("United to Protect Our Rights")released in August 2005 and supported by a wide range of organisations, including the Campaign Against Criminalising Communties (CAMPACC), the National Civil Rights Movement, the Islamic Human Rights Commission, the Muslim Association of Britain, the UK Stop the War Coalition, Birnberg Peirce Solicitors and the 1990 Trust. The petition is a condensed version of this statement, updated to take account of the government's publication of the Terrorism Bill on 12 October 2005.
  • A petition is a public statement - your name and address will be visible to anyone who visits the petition on the web. It isn't essential that you provide a full address (you could just give the name of your town), but it will strengthen the petition if you do. If you give an incomplete address, we may ask you to send us your full address so that we can include it with the petition when it is presented to MPs.
  • SACC is a Scottish-based group affiliated to the UK-wide Campaign Against Criminalising Communities. Our petition is part of a UK-wide struggle. Please sign it wherever you live.
  • When signing the online petition, please tick the box to make your email address available to the author of the petition - we do not have the resources to keep supporters informed of our campaign by post. Your email address will be used by SACC to update you with news about our campaign against the Terrorism Bill. It may be shared with CAMPACC's national (UK) coordinator of the Human Rights Lobby. It will not be knowingly passed to anyone else, except with your explicit permission or under legal compulsion.
  • You can download a printed petition sheet and collect signatures in your workplace, community etc.
  • Even if you've signed our printed petition, please sign the online petition as well; it will make it easier for us to administer the petition.
  • As well as signing this petition, please contact you MP with your concerns about the Terrorism Bill. For help with lobbying your MP, and for more detailed information to strengthen the points you may wish to make, visit the pages below:
