Donations for SACC welcome.
Nicknamed the ‘savage mountain’, K2 is considered by many mountaineers an even greater prize than Everest with limited routes, a steeper ascent, and a harder push to its summit. Pakistani porters and Nepalese sherpas enable ascents by western climbers whilst being paid rates far below those received by international expedition leaders.
The film also follows the first official all-Pakistani climbing team, made up of former porters who successfully summited in 2014, capturing the toil, pride, craft, humour and heroism of indigenous climbers who risk their lives on the breathtakingly beautiful and perilous slopes of K2. (12+)
Before the screening Richard Haley (Chair of SACC) and Moazzam Begg (former Guantánamo prisoner) will give a brief introduction to the work of SACC and the wider struggle for justice and human rights in the face of the so-called "war on terror".
Fundraiser for SACC organised by Digital Desperados.
The event will finish promptly to allow anyone who wishes to attend the screening of The Confession, about the life of Moazzam Begg, at the GFT. The GFT is less than 5 minutes walk from the CCA. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Moazzam Begg and director Ashish Ghadiali.
