Prince Harry - Ruling Class Hero

"Working Class Hero" for toffs, with apologies to John Lennon. Written after Prince Harry (aka "Captain Wales") compared killing from a helicopter gunship to a computer game. But it wasn't entirely Harry's fault.

As soon as you're born they put you on show
Then they give you no time so how can you grow
Soon the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A ruling class hero is something to see
A ruling class hero is something to see

They hurt you at home and they bate you at school
They did for your mother and they think you're a fool
Now you're so fucking crazy you just make up the rules
A ruling class hero is something to see
A ruling class hero is something to see

Well they pampered and scared you for twenty years more
You dressed like a Nazi so they sent you to war
Though you're so full of pain you're no use any more
A ruling class hero is something to see
A ruling class hero is something to see

Keep you doped with adoration and sex and parades
And you think you're so modern and classless and brave
But you're still fucking warlords, you'll never be saved
A ruling class hero is something to see
A ruling class hero is something to see

You've a place at the top they are telling you still
And already you've learnt how to smile as you kill
Cos you want to live with your folks on the hill
A ruling class hero is something to see
A ruling class hero is something to see

If you want to be a hero, well, just follow me
If you want to be a hero, well, just follow me

"It's a joy for me because I'm one of those people who loves playing PlayStation and Xbox, so with my thumbs I like to think that I'm probably quite useful."
- Prince Harry (aka "Captain Wales"), speaking in January 2013 about his job as a gunner on an Apache attack helicopter in Afghanistan.

"I am very sorry if I caused any offence or embarrassment to anyone. It was a poor choice of costume and I apologise."
- Prince Harry, January 2005, after being photographed at a "colonial and native" themed party dressed as a soldier in Nazi Germany's Afrika Korps and wearing a prominent swastika armband.

Now here's the lyrics of John Lennon's original...

Working Class Hero

As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

If you want to be a hero, well, just follow me
If you want to be a hero, well, just follow me
