UK Barrister Rizwan Hussain beaten in Bangladesh

Print
24 April 2008

Barrister Rizwan Hussain was brutally beaten and tortured at Zia International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Monday 14th April 2008. He has since returned to the UK [Thursday 17th April 2008].

His crime was to help an elderly lady with ticket problems and was brutally assaulted and tortured by FIVE airport security officials (Air forces). He was forced to sign a (false) declaration claiming that he was 'illegally trafficking humans' and that he 'falsely claimed to be a Barrister from the UK'. When he pleaded with them for water, they poured it over the floor surface and forced him to drink it off the surface floor. This act of brutality and injustice cannot go by with any excuse or by any standards in any country!

Rizwan Hussain is a well-known TV personality for his over-whelming humanitarian aid work and charity fundraising causes. He is a well-respected & admirable figure in the London-UK Muslim community and worldwide.

Working alongside Muslim Aid, Helping Hands, he helped regenerate the areas of Bangladesh devastated by recent Cyclone Sidr (late 2007), hence his regular and most visits there.

About Rizwan Hussain

Based on article at www.rizwanhussain.co.uk

Rizwan studied law at the University of Derby and then studied to become a Barrister at the Inns of Court School of Law in London. Rizwan was called to the Bar at Lincolns Inn.

Despite the years of study, Rizwan was not particularly keen on practising as barristers and as a result diverted his attention to various other vocations. Over the next ten years he went on to qualify and work as a lecturer of law, a police officer, journalist, radio and television presenter, businessman, human rights lawyer, composer and singer.

He has now become a nationally and internationally renowned and recognised as a presenter with a large following. Rizwan Hussain actively campaigned to raise funds for the Earthquake in Pakistan and other causes such as Interpal, Muslim Aid, Muslim Hands, Helping Hands, Islamic Relief, Islamic Help and many more Muslim charity organisations. Rizwan also regularly features on Channel S as the presenter of Islam Essentials (in English) and has presented a number of charity appeals for mosques, madrassa’s and international charity organisations on the channel.
